A few weeks ago I bought a new Nissan Titan and I wanted to move a lot things around with it. I have to say what I have on the truck is just a mess, all kinds of stuff piled together, you can see all those trash like stuff I don’t want, such as old shoes, useful or useless cables, phones, etc., some toys from years ago, a barely working exercise bike, etc. I tried to load them up in an ordered fashion but it was proved that my effort was futile. In the end I just gave up and threw all stuff together, and stared at the big mess I created. My mind was boggled but I knew I couldn’t drive with the trunk full of “garbage”, What would happen to me if I did drive like this? you could imagine the whole mess would collapse onto the road and might cause accident, or before anything could happen I would be stopped by a police officer and get ticketed. In a word, I couldn’t hit the road with “garbage” in my trunk and expect nothing would happen.
I had at lease two choices , I could start over and try to tidy them up and tie them down or simply find something to hold them together, in a word, I need something to tie my stuff down in the trunk, and this “something” can’t be too big or too expensive. Would I have to buy something like 4600lbs working load limit binder chain or 3333lbs ratchet straps ? Not likely. No heavy duty stuff needed here, what I need is something which can safe guard the stuff in the trunk. I see people use cargo bars to organize their trunk but that’s not what I wanted, all I want is to secure the load already in my trunk. Usually I would drive to local store to find what I wanted but this time I decided to go online.
At first I was totally lost because there so many tie downs, but when I narrow down my search to pick up truck I was able to find something useful, first I came across 1” ratchet straps, 6 or 9 feet, but with 2000 or 3000lb strength they were overkill in a sense, though there were not expensive at all, cam buckle straps were in the same shoes, what I found was too heavy duty yet not good enough for my purpose, I don’t think the ratchet straps could improve my situation there, 1” straps weren’t helpful here. Small pieces need something like a net to hold them together, not tie downs. I went through a lot of information and finally arrived at cargo nets , I could choose from 48”x60” or 60”x84”, depends on my need, and this was just what I needed, To use cargo nets is pretty simple, just cover the pile with cargo net, hook the hooks on the cargo net on the truck, that’s it. Here we have to introduce the bungee cord , the essential part of the cargo net, you can use the cords separately or connected together just like cargo net. In a nutshell, the small cargo nets and bungee cords are light duty tie downs made just for the purpose of holding together and tying down small but irregular loads such as the pickup truck mess in my case. And you can put these light duty tie downs to some creative use as you see fit, they are just perfect for passenger cars and small trucks.
